Our Spring 2012 Elizabethtown Sale is open for public shopping on Thursday, March 1 and Friday, March 2 from 10 AM to 8 PM.  We’re open on Saturday, March 3 from 10 AM to 5 PM with many items half price.

Written by Jen and originally posted at ConsignmentMommies.com, here are our 10 Tips for Successful Shopping at a Kentucky Kids Consignment Sale:

  1. Assess your needs – Before you even think about shopping, check to see what you already have.  What did you buy on clearance last season?  Can she still wear those jeans?  Does he have hand-me-down soccer cleats packed away somewhere?  Find out what you need most before heading out to shop.
  2. Dress for success – Comfy clothes and shoes are definitely the way to go.  Some shoppers spend a few hours at our sale making sure they survey all the options, so comfort is key.  Tuck your driver’s license & money into your pocket so you don’t have to worry about a purse while you shop.
  3. Leave the kids at home – It seems ironic to shop for the kids without actually bringing the kids, but we all know it’s much easier and more efficient.  If you’ve properly assessed your needs, you’ll know what sizes to look for.  If you absolutely must bring them along, make sure you know the sale’s rules about strollers and keep older children with you instead of turning them loose on the toy area.
  4. BYOB – Bring your own basket or bag.  We can loan you shopping bags, but it’s always best to have your own just in case.  Ikea shopping bags are great.  We’ve also seen shoppers with laundry hampers and even clean, wheeled trashcans!
  5. Do unto others – Basically, play nice.  Everyone wants the best bargains and most sales have enough to go around.  There’s no need to push & shove or take items another shopper has reserved.  If you choose to shop at peak hours, expect to wait a little while in the check-out line, the workers are likely volunteers and are moving as fast as they can.
  6. Plan the shop, shop the plan – Often, sales have photos of past events on their websites so you can see where specific items usually are located.  If you really need a stroller or a Little Tikes kitchen, find out where they will be so you can head there first.  If your child has a wide foot, you may want to start with the shoes.  If you don’t see what you’re looking for, find a volunteer worker and ask!
  7. Think outside the box -  Look for items new with tags that could be used for baby or holiday gifts.   Check the teen book section for the latest in that series that is your guilty pleasure.
  8. Check & double check – We are unable to accept returns, so check all items closely before getting in the check-out line.  Even the strictest inspection procedures aren’t perfect, so if you find an item that is stained or damaged, give it to a volunteer worker who will remove it from the sales floor.
  9. It’s always worth a second trip - Many of our shoppers return each day of the sale and find new bargains. On the final day of our sale, many items are 50% off!
  10. Volunteer your time & shop early – Volunteers are the key component of any sale and are rewarded with early shopping.  Volunteer presales are often less crowded than public shopping times and offer the best selection of merchandise.  Our volunteers tell us they love the change of routine and meeting other moms while working at the sale.

Just one week from today, the our dedicated crew of volunteer workers will be reaping the benefits of their labor and shopping EARLY at the Elizabethtown sale.  Will you be among them?

Sign up now using the “register/log-in” link.  If you don’t have an account with MyConsignment Manager, you’ll need to create one, then register for the Spring 2012 sale.  If you are not selling with us, choose the “register me as a volunteer only” option.  Once you get to the Seller Home Page, choose the “volunteer” tab to see all the available shifts.

Volunteer workers are also invited back on Friday, March 2 at 6 PM to shop early for half-price items.

We have many different four hour shifts available all during the week of the sale, February 26- March 3.  Volunteer workers help us set up the sale, check-in items, check-out customers, organize the sales floor, and tear down once it’s all over.  We have tasks that can be done while seated on certain shifts, so even those who need to stay off their feet can help.

You do not have to be a seller in order to work at the sale and shop early.  We have several grandmothers, fathers, and moms who just aren’t ready to sell yet who work during sale week.

Single shift – Work ONE shift (four hours) to receive a tote bag and shop the single shift workers presale at 3 PM on Wednesday, February 29.

Double shift – Work TWO shifts (eight hours) to receive a tote bag and shop EVEN EARLIER at the double shift workers presale at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 29. Sellers who work two shifts will earn 75% for their items.

Triple shift – Work THREE shifts (twelve hours) to receive a tote bag and shop EVEN EARLIER at the triple shift workers presale at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 29. Sellers who work three shifts will earn 75% for their items and have their $10 seller’s fee refunded.

Only one shopper per pass may attend the presale.  We are unable to provide childcare during your volunteer shift. Please do not bring your children to your shift as you will not be able to supervise them properly. Many of our volunteer workers team up to work different shifts and take turns providing childcare for each other.
